Amy Adams (likely) made her last stateside awards season appearance as a Best Actress nominee for Arrival at the SAG Awards on Sunday night. She did not receive an Oscar nomination for Arrival last week, but still has the BAFTAs on her nominee calendar. Full Story

They used to call this the Hollywood Issue, Vanity Fair’s annual February issue ahead of the Oscars featuring, primarily, the outstanding performers from the year that was. For whatever reason, the magazine has rebranded the name but the spirit is the same. In years past, Vanity Fair has been criticised for not featuring a diverse range of artists in this issue. Full Story

Remember last year when Leonardo DiCaprio was on the award circuit for The Revenant how the storyline was all what a travesty it was that he didn’t have an Oscar. Leo’s due! It’s his time! Like somehow he, Leonardo DiCaprio, LEONARDO DICAPRIO!, was hard done by. Forty years old or so. Full Story

Space movies are making a comeback, thanks to audiences who only turn out for widescreen spectacles (same reason Westerns are coming back), and in Arrival we get one of the better recent space movies, even though technically, it doesn’t take place in space. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, and adapted by Eric Heisserer from Ted Chiang’s short story Story of Your Life, Arrival is a first contact movie in the vein of Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Contact that successfully makes vocabulary lessons some of the tensest scenes of the year. Full Story
