Sorry, I ain’t sorry
Beyoncé has released more photos from Grammy night taken at Solange’s after-party. She’s in a white dress this time, caped. And, of course, OBVIOUSLY, the only one wearing white. Solange and Kelly Rowland wore red. Michelle Williams wore black. Destiny’s Child 2017.
In more ways than one. Because, as you know, Beyoncé is currently carrying two more members. As you can see from the photos, they were celebrating each other that night. Solange had just won her first Grammy. And Beyoncé picked up two more.
For Beyoncé, though, as we know now, the celebration wasn’t about winning Grammys. It was more about celebrating in spite of NOT winning Grammys. I wrote about how Beyoncé KNEW on Monday and how that knowledge informed her performance, how that performance was a declaration – and perhaps a promise, not just to the Recording Academy but to the status quo that the Recording Academy represented that night: I have in me the power to challenge what you uphold and it grows, and it will keep growing, until the weight of it crushes your stage. And if you had any doubt about that…
Put ‘em hands high.
Beyoncé, as we know, is very specific about her image, how she presents herself, how she is seen. So, naturally, we should be wondering if there’s a message behind her gesture.
Is Beyoncé telling the Grammys that that’s the last time they get to use her for hype and ratings? Is Beyoncé telling the Grammys “Boy Bye”?
